My dentist said nothing about the dam, just popped it in place. Now, I have never minded the dentist, not even after having more than one tooth and abscess removed as a young child (pre-fluoride I might add) using gas. Injections have never phased me. 'get it over with a.s.a.p." has always been my mantra. This dam though - claustrophobia hit me. I was drowning, a full asthma attack started up. Sorry, no, no..." I spluttered sending the poor dentist into a spin. He was not prepared to do the work without the dam so referred me to someone else. I think he thought I might get hysterical (he was right). The new dentist also used a dam but I had no reaction whatsoever because he told me what was happening and his hands were not so big and clumsy. Had more route canal treatment at my own surgery but with a lady dentist I had transferred to and she used neither dam nor any other horror. I feel for you katie!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-352920971254096499.post-38029293306221894242011-08-15T17:47:34.766-07:002011-08-15T17:47:34.766-07:00I've never heard of it either. However, I have...I've never heard of it either. However, I have a very strong "snake reflex" (lots of arcing saliva) which makes it loads of fun at my dental appointments. Maybe my dentist would like to use a dental dam.

Oops. TMI. Sorry.

I hope your former dentist is the only one out there using that contraption.Sioux Roslawskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17924021828536277618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-352920971254096499.post-86844195825315571622011-08-15T13:25:43.079-07:002011-08-15T13:25:43.079-07:00I've never heard of a dental dam. Like you, as a little kid, I had my teeth filled by a gentle dentist who did not use use Novocain or other pain relieving drugs, and I was okay with that. My dentist now does use the needle, and I DREAD it! He does his best, but man does it ever hurt sometimes. Still, glad I've never had a dental damaniac. :)Lisa Ricard Clarohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05048410207952052295noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-352920971254096499.post-42462246423748392772011-08-15T10:44:20.134-07:002011-08-15T10:44:20.134-07:00You capture here what we have (almost all of us) e...You capture here what we have (almost all of us) experienced at the hands of some arrogant dentist at one time or another. Thank you. Dr. Blatt is definitely not a good guy and I'm glad you listened to yourself and chose not to go back. I heard another dental horror story the other day from my neighbor. This one involved a tooth implant, the details of which I had never (fortunately) considered before.
Have you ever asked for nitrous oxide at the dentist's office? It's about $50 extra and so worth it.Andreahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07247877396600721769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-352920971254096499.post-922772212031502462011-08-15T09:27:42.950-07:002011-08-15T09:27:42.950-07:00Oy, that seriously sucks. Katie, I want you to know that this post has inspired me to floss again. (;Elisa DeLanyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06466740168508428362noreply@blogger.com
